There are a few state government subsidies remaining in Australia, including some very generous subsidies or interest free loan programs. Check online what programs may be available in your home state or territory.
Are there enough charging stations in Australia for EVs yet?
There are a growing number of public charging stations across Australia’s main road network. There are even more destination charging locations that can make traveling around Australia in an EV convenient and very cost effective!
How far can EVs go, whats their range?
Modern Electric cars have come a very long way in a short time. Some of the new models out this year are able to travel over 500km on a single charge, and with fast charging stations topping up batteries in 20 mins, its never been easier to do road trips in an EV in Australia.
When will EVs get cheaper
Whilst new EVs are starting to come down in price, with some entry level models now starting at $38k, the second hand market is where the real value is. With a lower upfront cost and the far lower running cost, owning a second hand EV can be a great way to lower the weekly cost of the commute and weekend drive.
Whats the Difference between an EV, PHEV and Hybrid?
An EV, or Electric vehicle is a car that runs purely on electricity, and stores all of its energy in a large onboard battery.
A PHEV or "Plug in Hybrid Electric Vehicle" is a petrol car with a small battery that can be charged up over night. These cars can run both on petrol and electricity, but typically have very small electric range. We don't list PHEVs on All Electric.
Hybrid cars are petrol cars that can't be pluged in to charge up, they typically have a small onboard battery that charges up when the car comes to a stop at lights or intersections. The electricity in the battery then helps the car accelerate. Hybrid cars typically can't drive on purely EV mode for more than a minute or so. We also don't list hybrid cars on All Electric.
How fast can EVs charge
EV charging time varies a lot car to car, and it also depends on what type of charging equipment is being use.
We provide charging time insights on all of our EV listings.
Typically home charging, or overnight charging will fill up an EV anywhere from 6 hours to 10 hours. Fast charging on a highway can be as quick as 20mins.
